I stopped drinking alcohol when my wife found out she was pregnant in August of 2023.
She asked if I was going to. At first, I thought “no way, I’m not pregnant.” But it was our last planned pregnancy so why not.
Fast forward to March 2024. I was at a brewery with some friends. They chided me on not drinking and asked if I was counting down to when the baby was born. Instead, I told them I was going to keep it going for 2024. They were stunned.
The past eight months have not been hard. There are countless non-alcoholic beers. And they’re tasty.
I didn’t drink frequently and rarely drank in excess. But there were several nights where I’d have a handful of beers and wake up the next morning with a slight headache.
I had read several studies about alcohol’s effect on your metabolism and brain.
My main goals are to be a loving parent, caring spouse, physically strong, and mentally agile. Alcohol doesn’t fit in there for me. It likely does for some (or at least does not compete with their goals).
Cheers to no alcohol in 2024.
