My Favorite Tool for Deep Work

When I needed to work deeply a couple of years ago, I’d throw on my headphones and play my favorite song at the time on repeat.

I’d listen to songs hundreds of times. The same song every day for weeks. (I wish Spotify kept total plays per song like iTunes did. There are several songs that are likely in the tens of thousands.)

Overtime I noticed my work quality was dependent on the song. A good song would produce quality work. But when I was in a music drought, my work suffered.

Then I found them. And now they are my favorite tool for deep work.

Earplugs.

They are the best. There is some getting used to. Like the weird humming in your brain. It eventually goes away.
