How I Use AI in Q1 2025

I read a post over on Ben Congdon’s blog about AI usage. After scrolling through his archive, I noticed an older post on his AI usage then.

Immediately wanted to do the same to document my AI workflows and see how they change throughout the year.

Tools

  • ChatGPT: My daily driver. I spend more time chatting with ChatGPT then texting. It’s replaced nearly all of my Googling. I have several CustomGPTs that I use for work and personal stuff. But most of CustomGPTs for work have been moved over to Claude Projects because of the higher output quality. I use ChatGPT for writing Google App Scripts. ChatGPT is useful for writing prompts for generating code snippets and other more complex tasks in Claude (Claude’s output is better here as well). I have a couple of 4o scheduled tasks that delivers a summary of Reddit posts and Google Trends (still exploring use cases here).
    • Models:
      • 4o
      • o1
      • o3 mini
      • Have not used 4.5 yet (plan to compare against Claude 3.7 but from what I’ve seen already it’s not better than Claude)
  • Claude: I use Claude a lot. And mostly for content and code generation. It’s been helpful in turning a detailed content brief’s into first drafts. And you can provide a significant amount of context in the project to control the style and keep the AI on track. It’s been impressive and a ton of fun to use. When I hit my daily limit of 3.7 Sonnet, I jump back over to ChatGPT. The limits are incredibly annoying. Not sure if it makes more sense to switch to the API model with N8N or not (need look into this).
    • Models:
      • 3.7 Sonnet
  • Grok: I’ve toyed around with it and the output is good but it’s not made it into a recurring workflow. I plug questions into it about current events (right now, it’s been getting a lot of questions from me about tariffs).
  • Gemini: I need to spend more time with Gemini. I occasionally use it inside a Google Doc for rephrasing a sentence I don’t like or making suggestions. It’s helpful here. I have not added Claude to Google Docs.
  • Cursor: Started playing around with Cursor. More to come on this one.
  • Gamma: I’m enjoying Gamma.app for turning a document into a nice looking report or presentation. I’m not great at design and Gamma gets me 80% of the way there.
