I recently added Copyworking back as a daily ritual.
Copywork is transcribing successful copy. Some type it out, I choose to rewrite it.
I’ve collected hundreds of ads, landing pages, sales letters, etc. in my Swipe File. Every morning I open the folder and select a file to rewrite.
I then set a timer for 15 minutes and write. I do this early in the morning before anyone in my house is awake. And I do it without music or background noise – only silence.
I’ve done this on and off for the past 10 years.
Adding this simple routine early in the morning has made my journaling flow and other copywriting activities throughout the day much easier. And when I get stuck with copywriting, I’ll open the folder, find my notebook, and set a 15-minute timer. Sometimes I’ll finish this session. Other timers I stop short and know how to proceed with what I’m working on.
If you’re struggling to find good ads to rewrite, check out Sam Parr’s CopyThat Challenge (he includes help snippets about why he thinks the copy works). I completed the Challenge when he launched it a couple of years ago.
