I’m A Bad Customer

As a marketer, I’m a terrible customer. I strip UTM parameters from URLs before sharing the link with friends or colleagues. I open affiliate links in a private browser window and navigate to the product manually. I block ads and pixels on when browsing the internet. I use plugins in my email to prevent my email provider from opening the image so the sender can track open rates.

I frequently add products I plan to buy to my cart when logged into the store then leave for a couple of days waiting for the social media ad or email with a coupon to buy what’s in my cart now.

I don’t know why I started doing this. I often don’t realize I’m doing this extra work until after. It also doesn’t make sense because I’m a marketer and make money from affiliate links myself. I even send coupons via email to close abandoned carts.
