Bachelor and Psychology

I have a confession. I sometimes watch the Bachelor with my wife. What’s more disappointing is that sometimes it draws me.

(On another note: If you are a Bachelor fan, stop what you’re doing and watch Unreal on HBO then watch Bachelor. It will change the way you see the show.)

Anyways, a scene from Monday’s episode piqued my interest.

I’ll attempt to set the scene. The Bachelor split the girls into two teams for a football game. The winning team would accompany the Bachelor on a date that evening.

The game was surprisingly close and competitive. However, one team lead most of the game until the end. The trailing team had a “hail mary” moment where they spectacularly scored to tie the game as the clock ran out.

What’s the most interesting is the scene after the game when the two teams are in separate locker rooms. The team that had tied the game was ecstatic and popping champagne bottles. While the team that “lost” was pouting and complaining.

It’s interesting to see how the two teams reacted when they both had the same outcome.

Watch for yourself.

I believe there is a term in psychology that explains this but I’m not sure. If you know, shoot me an email. I’ll update the article and give you credit.
