Concise Over Fancy

“Leaders” like to $10 words and acronyms when communicating to their team. I used the quotations around leaders on purpose as this is not the type of leadership to idealize.

The purpose for using big words when smaller words work is a charade of intelligence. Instead of leading with transparency they lead through confusion. Their team has no clue what’s going on. They are afraid to ask because the “leader” will embarass and belittle them.

True leaders communicate their mission and strategy to their team in plain language. They avoid large words when smaller words suffice. They spell everything out so there is no confusion. They accept every question because assumptions slow their team down and prevent them from reaching their goals.

Be a better leader by communicating more concisely and plainly. True leaders inspire rather than impress. Choose understanding over a thesaurus.
