I buy books in binges and I recently went overboard. The recent haul includes:
- Right Thing, Right Now
- Stories Sell
- Snow Leopard
- Almanack of Naval Ravikant
- Anthology of Balaji
- Red Sky Mourning
Red Sky Mourning is a fiction book by Jack Carr and the latest in the Terminal List series. The series is fantastic and I do not read a lot of fiction.
As for the rest, I’ll likely deploy 10% Read before reading the rest. I’ll likely read all of Right Thing, Right Now because I enjoy how Ryan Holiday writes books.
Snow Leopard is a good candidate. I really only wanted to read the section about Point of View and understanding the supporting details for creating a category of 1 as a writer.
I’m jumping around a lot in Stories Sell. I want to understand how to tell stories for a business. Most of the examples have been useful but they’re geared towards empowering teams and people. I want to understand how to use stories for customers. It’s likely that I have not jumped around enough to find this transformation.
I’ve wanted to read both Naval’s and Balaji’s books. Both books are a synopsis of what they’ve written and shared publicly. Both are prophetic in their thinking and explanation. These books arrive tomorrow. I believe I’ll read 10% at a time searching for answers to specific problems each time. Heck, it may lead to a full read of each book. Time will tell.
I like the 10% Read rule because it lowers the ask. I’ve always struggled to put a book down. The 10% Read rule solves this because you’re only supposed to read 10% (at least in my version).
And it’s been helpful to pick up books from shelf faster (I buy books in a ratio of 3:1 as in speed I read them). I’m lucky to have more unread books than I’m ever currently reading.
