The best addition to my office is my pull up bar.

Wall mounted pull up bar above my office door

I do 10 chin-ups every time I enter my office and 10 pull-ups every time I leave my office.

My minimum is 100 reps of each. And often I’ll do more.

I started doing pull ups daily several years ago. It was an exercise I wanted to get better at. At first it started with working towards a set of max reps - aiming for 50. I’ve gotten 30 but have since stopped doing max rep sets.

During this I had achy shoulders, specifically my right shoulder. It occasionally hurt at the end of the day and especially after a workout session. And on the days when I’d throw a ball to my son, it’d really flare up.

In high school, I had a small rotator cuff injury. Nothing that required surgery but did sit me out of baseball for a couple of weeks. It eventually got better but after years of minimal activity it flared back up.

After doing daily pull ups for several months, I noticed I no longer had shoulder pain after throwing a football with some friends at one of our kids birthday parties.

And now I don’t recall the last time I had shoulder pain.

I stumbled across this X post that reminded me of my shoulder pain. It hit home about baseball related rotator cuff injuries.

35% of adults without shoulder pain have full or partial thickness rotator cuff tears on MRI

Even 40% of professional baseball players have rotator cuff tears yet have no pain while playing

Approximately 20-40% of adults aged 20-40 show some form of disc bulge on CT or MRI but...

While I don’t believe pull-ups will solve all of their problems it likely will help many.

Get a pull-up bar in your office. Do pull-ups daily. Get moving.
