Lean into obsession

2021-02-27

There’s one key trait I’ve identified almost every single entrepreneur, athlete, and writer have.

You probably think discipline. Maybe talent. Or perhaps luck.

All of those are excellent choices.

But it’s an obsession.

Obsession is the best driver for success. Obsession fuels them. It helps them practice harder and push through adversity.

Kobe is the epitome of this. He lived basketball. He practices at absurd hours. And the volume of his practice was unmatched by most. He was obsessed with basketball. And obsessed with being the best.

This is easily applicable to entrepreneurship and heck writing. The best devote most of their hours and energy.

Bill Gates is an excellent example of the entrepreneurship world. And Steven Pressfield from the writing world.

While obsession over a sport is more romantic (maybe just to me after playing sports as a kid).

Obsession can be the secret sauce in your journey as an entrepreneur or even a knowledge worker.

You may be thinking is obsession the same as passion. No it’s not. At least not always.

Obsession will always outperform normality.

Be like Kobe, practicing free throws while his competition is at the bar having drinks. Or Steven Pressfield at the writing desk, battling procrassionation while his competitors give into by doom scrolling social media.
